Marlin and Yellowfin Tuna (Ahi)

Aveel and his son booked two consecutive charters with Kona Sea Adventures and requested that we target fish that they could take home. On our first day we hooked a Pacific Blue Marlin at 1500 fathoms off of Kailua-Kona. After a 15 minute fight, Aveel was overjoyed to reel in a 250 pound Blue Marlin. We tagged and released it. Aveel was pleased with his catch but wanted to bag a fish to eat so he booked a second fishing charter with us. The next day we targeted Wahoo (Ono) by trolling Ono lanes. Ono lanes refers to a depth off the Kona coast between 40 and 50 fathoms (240-300 feet). After a period of no bites, we decided to change our lure pattern and, at roughly 80 fathoms, we hooked a Yellow Fin Tuna (Ahi) with a lure intended for Ono! Aveel's son took to the fighting chair and reeled in a beautiful 80 pound Ahi! At the dock we carved up our catch and sent father and son home with fish in hand.
